According to a report from the Examiner Live, Southampton have asked Huddersfield Town to name their price for their star midfielder Aaron Mooy in the summer. The Saints are looking to bolster their midfield in the summer and Mooy is on their shortlist according to the report.
The Australian has been a regular for the Terriers since making the move from down under back in 2016 and he played a huge part in bringing Huddersfield into the Premier League last season. Mooy has missed just 12 games in the last 3 seasons for the Terriers and losing him would be a huge blow.
However, Huddersfield Town are back in the Championship after a shocking season in the top-flight, where they won just 3 games out of a possible 38. Southampton should capitalise on their misfortunes by making a move for Aaron Mooy in the summer transfer window.
Southampton haven’t particularly had a good season but the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl has been a positive influence at the St Mary’s. The German has been a breath of fresh air and the players seem to be responding to his style incredibly well.
The Saints will have to bring in players who will suit his style and Aaron Mooy could turn out to be a really smart move in the summer. The Australian is technically brilliant on the ball and has the ability to play anywhere across the central midfield.
Mooy is a workhorse and is always seen running which suits Hasenhuttl’s high-pressing style of play perfectly. The former Melbourne City star will slot in perfectly next to either Oriol Romeu or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or both if the Saints want to line up more defensively.
However, Mooy is at his best in a box-to-box role. The Aussie in a number 8 position provides an incredible balance between attack and defence and his incredible work rate and stamina allow him to do so throughout the game.
Mooy has a really impressive range of passing and has the ability to pick out perfect passes from a long way out. The Aussie’s movement between the channels opens up a ton of space for his other teammates to get into dangerous positions.
