Sissoko, Kane And More – 3 Talking Points From Tottenham’s 2-1 Victory Over Burnley

Share

After a comfortable victory over Hull City in the midweek, Mauricio Pochettino’s men backed it up with a nervy victory over the newly promoted Burnley side at the White Hart Lane on Sunday. The manager will not really be happy with his side’s performance on the night but having taken all three points, to keep up the pressure on the clubs above them in the table, the manager will hope that his team can lift their performance up.

Dele Alli and Danny Rose were on target for Spurs after  Ashley Barnes gave Burnley an early lead. There were a number of things to talk about from this game and here are the three major talking points from this game:

Kane and Spurs struggling:

Though they created a few chances, the hosts were clearly devoid of ideas at times in the middle of the park. They have also shown a bit of a weakness in front of goal and have not been able to create enough chances to help them win games easily. Though Harry Kane has a magical touch that can bail them out, Pochettino will know that the team is not able to play the kind of fluid football that they did in the previous season and that they are far away from the title. They have some decent quality in the squad but at the moment, they are a team that is struggling in front of goal, something that has to change quickly.

Moussa Sissoko has finally arrived:

After an impressive outing against the Tigers a few days ago, the former Newcastle man was dropped to the bench for this game against Burnely. However, Pochettino turned to the Frenchman as the first change on the night as he replaced an ineffective Mousa Dembele to add some attacking threat to the squad.

Sissoko repaid the faith shown by the manager as he instantly added a cutting edge in the attack that was absent in the first half. The Frenchman showed some purpose with the ball at his feet, set up Rose for his goal and also created a few other chances, all from the bench, making him an impact player. He has not been able to have this kind of an effect on games so far this season but after two back to back impressive performance, Moussa Sissoko has finally arrived at the Lane.

Danny Rose now an MVP:

Tottenham Hotspur surely have one of the best defensive lineups in the league this season. The likes Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Walker and Dier have all been exceptional at times this season but one player that is now irreplaceable is left-back Danny Rose. The first choice full back for club and country, Rose is one of the best players in his position in the league and also in Europe.

He has a superb blend of discipline and creativity that make him an impact player and his performance against Burnley showed why he is irreplaceable.Though Pochettino has Ben Davies as a cover for Rose, the former is certainly not a player who can add that much of an attacking threat making Rose all the more important. With lack of quality fullbacks in the market as well, Danny Rose is now one of the most valuable players at the Lane at the moment.
