Simply Not Good Enough: 3 Players Tottenham Should Sell/Loan Out In The January Transfer Window

Share

Having missed out on the Premier League title in the last month of the previous season, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are still to be beaten in England’s top flight this season and are genuinely fighting for a place in the top-4. Though they have not been able to string wins together, the manager will know that he has a squad capable of maintaining the decent start to the end of the season and will hope to mount another title challenge. Some players in the squad are yet to have an effect on the league and with the January transfer window fast approaching, it might be time for the manager to think about loaning out or selling players who have no place in the squad.

Here are three such players that Pochettino might loan or sell in the January transfer window:

Marcus Edwards – Loan:

Breaking into the first team last season, the 17-year old has made an impressive start to his career at the Lane and is one of the most exciting talents at the academy in London. Though the fans of the club would love the youngster to stay at the club and continue his progress, he is a player who will need some regular game time to stay at the top of his game which will be hard to come by this season at Tottenham – simply because the team is already under immense pressure. Spurs have some decent depth in the attacking department leaving Edwards with just 3 substitute appearances this season and a place in the starting XI for the rest of the season at a club away from Tottenham might help him come out as a better player for the next season.

Tom Carroll – Loan:

Having signed a contract till 2019 just this year, the 24-year old English midfielder is one of the fringe players for Pochettino this season. He is a decent player with some superb ability with the ball and the manager is hoping that he can turn into the top class player for the club in years to come. However, he has not been able to get a regular place in the side this season which has stunted his growth and it might be time for Pochettino to send him out on loan in January. At 24, he has enough time under his belt to turn things around and if he can get to start regularly away from Spurs, he may well come back at the end of the season as a decent option next season.

Harry Winks – Loan:

The 20-year old is a central midfielder who loves to control the game with the ball at his feet. He fits into Pochettino’s high-intensity game and is a player for a long term for Spurs. Though he got 3 starts and plenty of other substitute appearances in the league already this season, he is still is a raw talent and needs some regular coaching to turn into the better player. The pressure on the Spurs’ squad this season in search of silverware is too much for him to handle and he is better advised to try and find regular game time away from the Lane. The manager will know that he has the potential and it might be the time for him to step up and take the first team responsibility of a smaller club in his learning process.
