On 19th December 2012, Barcelona announced that Tito Vilanova was suffering from Parotid gland cancer . The cancer was treated but has relapsed. He was diagnosed earlier a year earlier on 22nd November 2011. The man has fought it once and the entire football fraternity is with him. Almost everyone from rival players to managing director’s from various clubs offered their support and wished Vilanova a speedy recovery.
Barca earlier issued a press release announcing they had suspended their scheduled media activities for the day, but it did not go into details and did not mention Vilanova.
The statement read: “Barcelona announce that it is has suspended the press conference from president Sandro Rosell planned for midday. As well as that, the media Christmas lunch has been cancelled.
“Later today [Wednesday] the club will issue a further release. Until that time we will lot make any announcement about this matter.”

An extension of the pathology has been detected in [Vilanova’s] parotid gland. The manager requires surgery which he will undergo this Thursday. He is expected to remain in hospital for three to four days.
After the surgery, Francesc ‘Tito’ Vilanova will undergo chemotherapy and rediation treatment for approximately six weeks. During this time, and depending on how well he recovers, Vilanova’s treatment may be compatible with his work life.

Even Tennis star Rafael Nadal wished for the Vilanova’s health:
