Scouting For Manchester United: 3 Rights Backs To Target This Summer

Share

Antonio Valencia and Rafael Da Silva, names that don’t really strike fear into the heart of the opposition, Manchester United have struggled to get attacking right backs into their team recently. United have been in the market for a lot of attacking players but they need a right back who can bring some fear into the opposition, they already have Luke Shaw who is a good attacking left back and could do with a right back of the same ilk.

We look at three right backs who could be a great fit for Manchester United next season as they try to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

1. Nathaniel Clyne

Clyne

The 24-year-old Southampton player has been one of the rising stars in a brilliant season for Ronal Koeman’s men. Although he has shot to spotlight thanks to his attacking and defensive performances in the right back position, it is only this season that people have really paid attention to the English defender. He even got to represent the national side this season as his stock value grows. Manchester United signed Luke Shaw last season from Southampton and they could make it another signing from the Saints as they look to strengthen their right back position for next season.

2. Dani Alves

The Barcelona right back decided not to sign a new contract with the Catalan club and would be available on a free at the end of the season. The 31-year-old isn’t that old that he cannot acclimatize to the fast pace of the Premier League. Manchester United are known to have some of the best attacking players in the Premier League Era and Dani Alves would certainly fit into that bracket. He is known for his lung-bursting runs and crosses into the box to support the attack. He might not be the best defender in the world but one thing is a certainty, he surely will provide Manchester United that impetus in attack from the right side of the pitch.

3. Sebastian Jung

A bit of a long shot really but someone who could be hugely beneficial for Manchester United in the future as well. Jung might be only 24-years-old and a bit of an unknown quantity but in the Bundesliga he is one of the rising talents in a brilliant Wolfsburg team. Capable of attacking as well as defending really well, Jung even got a chance to play for the German national senior squad and made an appearance for them. He still needs to hone his game if he is to be considered as one of the best right backs in the world and where else could he learn more than under the tutelage of Louis Van Gaal? Jung would be a young and cheap alternative to some of the bigger names out there but a risk in terms of moving to a new country and to a new league at such a youngish age.
