Sooner, rather than later, Manchester United fans seem resigned to the fate of losing David de Gea to Real Madrid, the Spanish goalkeeper is all set to complete a move to the Spanish giants and that would leave a huge void to fill at Manchester United. Victor Valdes is a decent player, but he is no De Gea, who was responsible for a lot of Manchester United’s wins.
Nevertheless, football goes on and United would have to bring in someone who is capable of handling the pressure of playing for the massive club, we look at three relatively inexpensive signings for Manchester United who would do a great job at Old Trafford.
1. Samir Handanovic
One of the few Inter players who had a good season, Handanovic might not be the youngest goalkeeper at the age of 30, but he is one of the most reliable goalkeepers out there. The Slovenian has only one year left on his contract and could be enticed with a move away to Manchester United. He still has a few good years left in him and that could be enough for the club to make a move for him and for Inter to cash in on him before he leaves on a free.
2. Asmir Begovic
It is a surprise that not big club has moved for Asmir Begovic as of yet, the Stoke City goalkeeper has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent goalkeepers over the years and it should have led to him playing for a much bigger club. He is acclimatized to England and knows the conditions really well which would make him an ideal candidate for any top club and Manchester United calling any player would be too hard to resist, even if the player recently signed a new deal with the club to keep him for much longer.
3. Jan Oblak
The best thing to replace one Atletico Madrid goalkeeper is to get another one. Prior to this season not many would have heard about Oblak but at only 22-years of age, he broke into the limelight thanks to his brilliant performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League. Oblak has been a great player for Benfica before his move to Atletico and like Courtois and De Gea, he has been groomed for greatness. Young and strong, he could provide the cover for Victor Valdes for one season before taking over the gloves next season.
