Scouting For Arsene Wenger – 3 Possible Players Arsenal Should Target In January

Share

Arsene Wenger picked up his sixth straight win when the Gunners managed to sneak in a 3-2 victory over Swansea City at home this weekend. The manager will be happy with the form of his side at the moment but that has not stopped him from looking at players who he can sign when the transfer window is open again. The Gunners have a formidable squad with decent back-ups for most positions but there is a feeling that they might need a couple of more signings to give them a genuine shot at the title this season. With the January transfer window already on the minds of the clubs around Europe, here are three players Wenger needs to target to make his side one of the best in the league:

Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City):

The PFA Player of the Year for the previous season, Riyad Mahrez, is one of the long-term targets for the Gunners. The Algerian international was easily the most impressive player in the title winning season for the Foxes and has started with some decent performances early this season. However, with Leicester City not looking too strong in the league, Mahrez might rethink his stance of staying at the club for a long time. Recent reports have flagged Arsenal favourites to land their man in January and he will be a crude addition for the Gunners who will have one of the most exciting attacks in the league if they can get their hands on the title winner in January.

Andrea Belotti (Torino):

Another attacking option that Wenger has his eyes on for January is Serie A striker Andrea Belotti. Having started the new campaign in fine form, Belotti has attracted interests from top clubs in Europe with reports suggesting that English outfit Liverpool are readying a bid for their man in January. However, the 22-year old has been on the radar of the Frenchman for some time now and this might be a nice time to spend on him to fend off all interests from all other clubs. Though Wenger spent on Lucas Perez in the summer, it does not look like the former La Liga man will assume a first-team role this season and Belotti might just take his place in the long term.

Alban Lafont (Toulouse):

34-year old Petr Cech, who is currently the first choice shot stopper at the Emirates, does not have too many years left to give to the club and it is high time that the Gunners find a player who can take his place immediately. There are not many options for Wenger in the market but recent reports have suggested that he has identified Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont as his long-term successor. The 17-year old is highly rated in League 1 for his performances recently and has attracted interests from the likes of Juventus and FC Porto as well. He is contracted with the club till 2020 but Arsenal are reportedly trying to lure him to the club in January, and if they can, he will be a great addition to the squad for the long-term.
