Scout Report: Patrick Herrmann, The Answer To Manchester United’s Midfield Issues?

Share

The rise of the German footballers just does not stop, another talent has been sparkling for his team in Germany and a lot of top clubs are after him. Patrick Herrmann has been having a blast playing for his club Borussia Monchengladbach. The German has been on the lists on a lot of top clubs with Liverpool being linked with him earlier and now reports are coming in that Manchester United are lining up a move for the German.

Who is he?

Patrick Herrmann is 24 years old and has played his entire senior career for Borussia Monchengladbach. The German started his footballing career at FC Uchtelfangen before joining 1.FC Saarbrucken and then joined Monchengladbach in 2008. He made his senior debut in the Bundesliga for the club in 2008 and provided an assist just a minute after making his debut for the club.

Herrmann can play as a right midfielder or a winger, he can play as a striker also if needed and can contribute playing in the centre of midfield as well, so versatility is a big plus for the young German. He has incredible pace and control. He is known for his dribbling ability and can outpace even the fastest defenders.

This season has been his best in terms of goals scored with Herrmann scoring 13 goals from 33 appearances for the club in all competitions. He has already scored the same number of goals in the past 3 seasons combined, this season and looks set to score a few more goals as he tries to bring Monchengladbach back into the Champions League.

His first touch and finishing are his great strengths, as shown this season, he has slowly and steadily gotten into the goals column and now is a game changer for Monchengladbach but this is the story of this season, Herrmann is slowly becoming one of the go-to guys for his club in the Bundesliga.

For all his great technique and ability, he still has a few weak points in his game, one of which is dead ball situations, although he is technically gifted, his delivery from crosses, corners and free kicks is a little wanting, something he needs to work on in training. Also, he isn’t the strongest player out there and can easily get outmuscled by opponents; his slight frame might be a bit of a problem while playing in the Premier League.

He isn’t the best defensively either and is not known for his marking or tackling, something he might have to work out on if he has to make a name for himself in the Premier League. If Manchester United do sign him up it will be quite a coup but Herrman would still need to work hard on a couple of aspects of his game.
