Fulham prodigy Ryan Sessegnon claimed the undisputed EFL Championship player of the year on Sunday evening and then capped it off with inclusion in the PFA team of the season earlier today.
The 17-year-old who has reportedly caught the eye of La Liga giants Barcelona was acclaimed during the annual EFL Awards as the player of the season, young player of the season, and apprentice of the season. Inevitably, he has included in the Football League team of the season as well as the club-developed XI.
It’s a unique set of accolades for a young player with the world at his feet. Long linked with a move to Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal are also rumoured to be interested in the versatile young England international.
A signal of how good his season has been comes with his inclusion in the shortlist of candidates for the PFA young player of the year, the first non-Premier League player to receive a nomination.
The player himself remains modest about his achievements.
“It is crazy to be on a shortlist with those players but I’m just happy to be in and around those types of players,” he observed.
“I just need to keep improving. It is credit to the team really, the way we play and ever since I made my debut. I know the club very well and I feel very comfortable playing for the club.”
Fulham made their task of claiming the last automatic promotion place harder with a 1 – 1 draw at home to Fulham last weekend. They have another London derby at Millwall on Friday night, a match they must win, against a team with promotion aspirations of their own.

“It would mean everything to go up with Fulham,” he said. “It has been a dream of mine to play in the Premier League with Fulham. We are so very close I just want to get over the line now.”
