They Are Ready To Do A Leicester – Why Pochettino’s Tottenham Are The Real Deal This Season

Share

Claudio Ranieri’s title charge at the King Power last season took the limelight away from a number of other impressive efforts around the Premier League. None bigger than the strong statement that London outfit Tottenham Hotspur made with their excruciatingly close title challenge. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have made tremendous progress since the start of the previous season and have been terrific early this campaign. The squad at the Lane is strong enough to challenge for a Champions League spot but the 2-0 victory over Manchester City, the title favorites, in the recent Premier League game has now put Tottenham right at the top as the title contenders. But does Pochettino’s side have what it takes to go all the way this time around?

For starters, the summer additions have allowed the players in the squad to work harder and fight for their spot which has seen a huge increase in productivity, with the best example being Son Heung-Min. The South Korean has already bagged the same number of goals he did in the entire season last time around and has helped the side in the absence of star striker Harry Kane. He was influential in the victory over City and has shown that every player in the squad brings his own threats to the side. The likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko (the new summer signing) have all started the season well and look comfortable in Pochettino’s side.

They will surely create enough goals to get the team into winning positions but what makes them genuine title contenders this season is their defense. Starting with Victor Wanyama in front of the back four to Kyle Walker, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose and Ben Davis, every Tottenham defender has been in great form and have given the Spurs a great start to the domestic league season. In the first 7 games, Tottenham Hotspur’s defense has conceded just the 3 goals which is by far the best in the division. They have a strong base that gives the whole team a balanced look and if Pochettino can get his side to play similar football throughout the season, they can surely challenge for the title this campaign.

Last season, the Europa League had its effects on the squad as the Spurs failed to pick up a few crucial points in the middle of the season. However, with the Champions League providing enough time for the players to recover this season, Pochettino will hope that he can get his best XI out for every game. Though not the best team on paper in the league, Spurs are surely one of the most in-from teams in the country and if they can find some consistency, they are not too far away from going all the way.
