Rashford to lead the line – Strongest 4-3-3 Manchester United line-up to face Watford

Share

Manchester United had a dismal league campaign last term but improved immensely this season to secure a runners-up finish prior to the final gameweek.

Although they have ensured a place in next season’s Champions League without much trouble, Mourinho’s men failed big time to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title. However, they would now be determined to regain their lost form against Watford at Old Trafford prior to their massive FA Cup final clash versus Chelsea.

The Red Devils had a week to forget with a shock defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion followed by a dull scoreless draw versus West Ham United at London Stadium. They, however, will be upbeat at Old Trafford and are likely to bag three points here.

Probable Manchester United XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Jose Mourinho

David De Gea (GK)

United’s saviour who has not only kept the most number of clean sheets but has also guided them to defend narrow leads time and again.

Antonio Valencia (RB)

The veteran full-back has had some sparkling moments and has used his experience to perform persistently.

Chris Smalling (CB)

Was not in Mourinho’s plan a few months back but has utilised his opportunities to reclaim a starting slot in deep defensive line.

David de Gea

Victor Lindelof (CB)

The summer recruit from Benfica has not been too impactful and has mostly spent his time in the bench. However, the Swedish international is having a run of games now and he should work hard to warrant a starting spot next term.

Ashley Young (LB)

The experienced Englishman has redefined himself in the left-back role to register a first-team role over Luke Shaw.

Ander Herrera (RCM)

Has been rotated in the midfield. Has had some bright occasions but needs to inject discipline and consistency into his game to secure a starting role.

Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic (CM)

The Serbian reunited with his former gaffer in the summer and has slotted straight in the middle of the park to orchestrate moves from behind and keep control of the midfield game by winning back possession.

Paul Pogba (LCM)

The highly-rated French sensation has had yet another ordinary season and despite some impressive outings, he is yet to justify his price-tag.

Jesse Lingard (RW)

The Englishman has improved immensely under Mourinho and has had his best campaign in terms of goals and assists. He is likely to be included in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

Jesse Lingard

Anthony Martial (LW)

Martial’s growth has stalled under Mourinho due to a lack of opportunities. His style of football does not suit the Portuguese’s gameplan but the Frenchman would be determined to deliver and knock the first-team door in next month’s World Cup.

Marcus Rashford (ST)

The academy prodigy had a tremendous inception to his senior career under Louis van Gaal but has not been able to uplift his game under Mourinho. But he is only 20 and has a bright career ahead for both club and country if he keeps his patience and continues to work hard on and off the pitch.
