Rangers’ Top 3 Value For Money Signings In Recent Times

We’ve written about Rangers’ worst signings in recent times and unfortunately for the Scottish giants, there have been too many bad ones to talk about. They have, however, also secured some pretty decent talent for very little money over the course of the last few years and it’s only fair that people should acknowledge that.

No sensible fan takes Rangers’ struggles for granted and with them having come back from the bottom tier of Scottish league football, the free signings of Cammy Bell, Nicky Clark and Ian Black shouldn’t be forgotten when talking about Rangers’ revival.

After the disaster of last year in terms of incomings, this summer was a little better. Nevertheless, Caixinha was sacked and the summer business cannot be termed as a complete success. Nevertheless, here are three good examples of excellent transfer business, all things considered:

Graham Dorrans (Norwich City, £1.5million)

The midfielder was a firm fixture in the English Premier League for a long time and at 30, has lost little of his ability.  His quality in the middle is obvious and in years gone by, Rangers would have paid ten times as much for players who can make an impact in the league.

Ryan Jack (Aberdeen, free)

Dorrans’ midfield partner Jack was vital to Aberdeen’s cause in being Celtic’s main challengers in recent times, though he had his captaincy taken away from him before the cup final last season after his wish to join Rangers was known.

He is a quality player, especially in the context of this division, and so grabbing him for free was a real coup for the club. It’s a wonder as to why he has not been a regular for Scotland in recent years but that may still come with a change of management.

Alfredo Morelos (HJK Helsinki, £1million)

Despite being very much an incoming as a part of the failed Caixinha experiment, not being able to speak the language effectively and taking time to adjust to Scottish football, Morelos has been involved in a goal every 125 minutes so far and is getting better.

The way the striker is developing, he will cost a hell of a lot more than the £1million that Rangers paid to land him. That alone makes him an extremely good value signing, though time will tell how far he can go at Ibrox.
