According to a report from The Daily Record, Rangers are interested in signing Simon Deli from Slavia Prague as Steven Gerrard sorts out his defensive reinforcements.
The Ivory Coast defender holds a release clause worth €2.5million and is also wanted by the Belgian outfit Club Brugge. Deli’s contract is due to expire at the end of the next season.
Deli has been a staple for the Czech Republic outfit over the past four seasons, playing more than 100 games. His best season turned out to be the 2015/16 campaign, where Prague won the League title and he also ended as a runner-up for the best defender award.
As far as the previous season is concerned, Deli played a significant role for Prague in achieving 13 clean sheets, the highest ever in the league. He has also earned 7 international caps so far and he occasionally plays as a defensive midfielder, though he is a centre-back by nature
Steven Gerrard has not been left with too many centre-back options other than Nikola Katic and Conor Goldson as Joe Worrall has returned to his parent club, Nottingham Forest.
Meanwhile, Ross McCrorie has also been sent on loan to Portsmouth, forcing the Gers to rely on the available options.
And this has to be the time that the Light Blues have to make a call on Ivory Coast international Deli, who would bring a lot of experience to the table. And at the same time, his versatility to play to further up in the pitch eases the pressure off Gerrard.
The former Liverpool ace has a great chance of winning the silverware as the manager at Ibrox, but it will be shattered by even the slightest of blunders committed by his side.
The Gers lost a string of matches owing to poor defending midway through the season, which enabled Celtic to move ahead in the title race.

Amidst the trophyless season, Gerrard still showed some progression in several aspects such as two Old Firm derby wins and making a cluster of new young signings, which made his intentions clear for next season.
While the Light Blues are poised for a great season ahead, especially with a set of new youngsters and with Europa League qualifying matches at stake, Gerrard should form a formidable squad in due course.
