According to a report in Daily Record, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is hopeful about concluding a deal to sign Glen Kamara by the end of this January transfer window. The 23-year-old, who is currently playing for Dundee, has signed a pre-contract with the Gers and could arrive at the Ibrox by next Thursday.
The Finland international was initially supposed to be joining Gerrard’s team at the end of this season after the expiry of his contract at Dundee.
However, the Dees manager Jim McIntyre wanted the player to leave this month, as it would be difficult for him to make use of the former Arsenal player knowing that they will part ways soon (h/t BBC).
Here’s why Kamara joining the Rangers squad is a fantastic thing for the club:
Glen Kamara is a versatile player who can play in any position across the midfield. He is predominantly a defensive midfielder but is perfectly capable of playing in either of the central midfield positions, be it in a double pivot or a three-man midfield.
In terms of the attributes, he has a good turn of pace to beat an opposition player in tight spaces and carry the ball forward. The Finnish international is also physically strong to impose himself in the midfield and his height (183cm) enables him to win aerial duels and be a genuine threat from set-pieces.
He is not bad when it comes to passing the ball with accuracy and picking out the right pass at the right time. Being a defensive-minded midfielder, the 23-year-old has a good sense of snuffing out dangers by making important tackles and interceptions.
Talking about Rangers, they have struggled in the midfield at times, partly when the controlling part of the game comes into play. For instance, after taking a lead away at Kilmarnock on Wednesday, they collapsed and let the game slip away. Ryan Jack played in defensive midfield and gave away possession too many times and needlessly so.
When a team is playing a tough away game and have taken an early lead, they should manage the game better by controlling the midfield and not allowing a route back for the home side. The Gers midfielders did anything but that. That loss has left them in a precarious situation in the title race, with Celtic winning their game.

Rangers would do well with someone who can play in the defensive midfield and dictate the match for them. In Glen Kamara, they would get that midfielder.
