Why Cardiff City must make a move for Tyrone Mings in January

According to a report from Derby Telegraph, Derby County, Aston Villa, West Brom, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are all interested in taking Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings on loan.

Tyrone Mings, 25, signed for Bournemouth from Ipswich Town in 2015 but has failed to nail down a regular place in the first-team under manager Eddie Howe. He has made only seven appearances for Bournemouth this season and 23 in total since moving to the Vitality stadium as injuries have severely hampered his career.

Since Bournemouth have signed Chris Mepham from Brentford, Tyrone Mings should move out of the club on a temporary loan this month. That said, Cardiff City must rival the Championship clubs for the defender’s signature.

Cardiff City are battling hard to survive in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship. The January transfer window has come at a rather fortuitous time for the Bluebirds and while they need to spend to save themselves from getting relegated, they need to do it on the right players and the right areas.

Veteran manager Neil Warnock faces an uphill task to save his team from the jaws of relegation. He needs reinforcements quickly and the priority has to be a defender. Cardiff City have leaked in 44 goals so far this season, which gives us an idea about Warnock’s defence. Truly, goalkeeper Neil Etheridge needs some solid protection in front of him and Warnock would be wise to land Tyrone Mings.

Tyrone Mings needs a run of games to get back to his best and he could certainly get that at Cardiff. His versatility to play as a centre-back and even as a defensive midfielder if required adds more value to his name.

The 25-year-old would arguably be a good addition for Warnock’s side, adding cover and competition for the likes of Bruno Manga, Sol Bamba, Sean Morrison, Lee Peltier and Matthew Connolly. He could also battle with Joe Ralls for the left-back role.

Mings’ injury problems will be a concern for Cardiff Cit but if he manages to keep himself fit, there is no question that he has the potential to be a difference-maker for Warnock’s side.
