Nicholl managed the Light Blues for three games on an interim basis last season.

The current assistant coach of St Mirren is confident that Gerrard’s impact at Ibrox is certainly there, regardless of the stats. (h/t The Daily Record UK)

“Yes there has been progress this year, but everybody just wants progress quicker.

If you only look at the facts and figures you might say there’s not been much progress – but yes there has. Just look at how the place was.

Gerrard’s first season at Ibrox is bound to end as a trophy-less one, as his side are out of all competitions.

However, the Light Blues were left with some moments to cherish this season, such as the Old Firm derby win and a healthy record at Ibrox Stadium.

Nicholl expressed his disappointment over not seeing Steven Davis in action.

Davis returned from Southampton after a successful loan in January but has since been benched quite often by the former Liverpool star.

He said, (h/t The Daily Record UK)

“Of course – it was a mystery to me why Steven wasn’t playing.

“He would go away with Northern Ireland and be outstanding for two games, yet he’d barely have kicked a ball for Rangers.

Nicholl further praised the Northern Irish man’s recent performances and determination.

The Gers have picked up back-to-back wins, thus ending their long-running win drought.

Gerrard was happy with the side, as they were able to cope, even without their star striker Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian striker is currently serving his ban and will make his return to the team next month.

Jermain Defoe and Scott Arfield were both outstanding in recent times with the latter scored a hat-trick against Motherwell.

The Light Blues will play Hearts in their next game.
