The race for French international Loic Remy has restarted after Liverpool pulled out of a deal to sign the QPR striker due to issues regarding his medical. After a fierce race involving a number of Premier League teams, Liverpool had appeared to have secured an £8.5 million deal for Remy only to withdraw from the transfer at the last minute despite the Frenchman travelling to the States to meet up with the squad on their pre-season tour.
On the back of a successful season on loan at Newcastle, Remy impressed when he came on for France during this summer’s World Cup in Brazil. Liverpool had fought off challenges from Everton, Arsenal, Newcastle and a number of European clubs to sign Remy, and the odds on the Unibet iPhone app suggest even more clubs could now come in for the 27-year old now that Liverpool have pulled out of the race.
Brendan Rodgers confirmed Remy wouldn’t be joining the club, admitting it was disappointing to miss out on a forward who could have perhaps scored some of the goals Liverpool will be missing following Luis Suarez’ departure to Barcelona.
“It’s very simple, we have decided not to go ahead with the deal. It’s unfortunate for the player – we’re obviously disappointed – but there’s nothing more to be said. We move onto other targets,” said the Liverpool manager.
But concerns regarding the rumoured failed medical have been quickly dismissed by QPR and it remains to be seen whether recent developments will deter potential suitors for Remy. As long as there isn’t any concern over his fitness, there is no doubt Remy has the ability to be a prolific goalscorer in the Premier League. With so many clubs looking to sign a proven goalscorer this summer, it doesn’t look as though Remy’s return to Loftus Road will be an extended one.
