Premier League Team Of The Week – Manchester Teams Dominate, Koscielny Makes The Cut

The Premier League never fails to thrill and spill in equal measure, and last weekend was no different. While some big clubs got favourable results and some big-name players continued their good form, some new faces also popped up. Here’s the Premier League Team of the Week for game-week 5:

Goalkeeper: Lukasz Fabianski, Swansea City

Fabianski has been impressive in the Premier League this season, and he continued his good form at the Wembley Stadium where he made 8 saves to thwart a determined Tottenham team from getting a result. The Swansea City keeper deserves his spot under the bars as it was his athleticism and spirit that helped his team come away from London with an invaluable point.

Right-back: Tommy Smith, Huddersfield

Smith has been a vital part of the Huddersfield defence which has thus far kept the club inside the top 6 of the League table and his form has shown no signs of slowing down. He made three interceptions and three clearances in their draw against Leicester City and thus, makes it to the team ahead of Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia.

Tommy Smith

Centrebacks: Jamaal Lascelles, Newcastle United and Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal

A rock-solid defender who also scores the odd goal, Jamaal netted the winner in Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City in the weekend. Koscielny was a pivotal part of the Arsenal backline who came away from Stamford Bridge with a respectable 0-0 draw. The Frenchman was instrumental in keeping the likes of Morata and Hazard silent throughout the game as he made two blocks and four interceptions during a testing away game.

Left-back: Ashley Young, Manchester United

Young slotted in for Darmian and owned the left flank for United, as he made 5 interceptions and repeatedly put in great crosses into the box. His dominance kept the likes of Sigurdsson and Rooney quiet and helped the Red Devils notch an impressive 4-0 win against the Toffees.

Central midfield: Mario Lemina, Southampton and Andrew Surman, Bournemouth

Lemina and Surman were at the heart of a dominant midfield performance from their teams, which saw them collect good wins against decent opposition. While the former made more passes than any other player at Selhurst Park(73), the latter scored a goal and had 107 touches of the ball which helped the Terries procure their first 3 points of the season.

Mario Lemina of Southampton

Left Midfield: David Silva, Manchester City

David Silva is at the heart of the renaissance that Guardiola has seemingly begun at Manchester City and he underlined it once again with a stunning performance at Watford that helped City thump them 6-0. The Spanish playmaker produced 5 key passes (including 2 assists) and ran the whole show.

Right Midfield: Juan Mata, Manchester United

Mata played the perfect foil for Mkhitaryan and Lukaku, as he managed to string together a number of attacks, also helping them recycle possession again and again. His passing was also influential in helping United get the 4-0 win, as he came up with three key passes inside the Everton half.

Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus

Strikers: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City and Gabriel Jesus, Manchester City

Aguero and Jesus seem to be in the form of their lives, ripping defenses apart with ease and scoring a truckload of goals in the process. The Argentinian netted a hattrick in the weekend and also set one up for the Brazilian, and in between them, they have scored 9 out of City’s 16 goals in the Premier League so far.
