3 Reasons Why West Ham United Will Avoid The Drop This Season

At a glance, West Ham United’s Premier League position is perilous, to say the least, given that they sit only three points above the relegation zone and with a dire goal difference of -18.

The initial impact of bringing in David Moyes seems to have faded now, often the case when the dust of a managerial change settles, and their leaky defence is a major cause for concern and something not usually indicative of a Moyes-coached side.

That said, there is definitely hope for the Hammers with nine games still to go and here we list the three main reasons why they should avoid the dreaded drop from this point:

Their Home Form

West Ham have gained 63% of their total points from home games this season – nothing exciting there of course – but in accruing almost 1.5 points per game at the London Stadium, we can safely say that playing there is their best chance of results.

So, having five of their remaining 9 league games at home is a huge boost at this point and is something which is in stark contrast to, say Southampton. True, Man City will visit, but four of the Hammers’ last 5 home league games are against Burnley, Southampton, Stoke and Everton, and I think with a 3-point head-start on the relegation zone, they’ll get enough points from those to survive.

Even 3 home wins, which is quite possible with these fixtures, and losing everything else could be enough for the East London side.

Chicharito and Marko Arnautovic

Arguably, they haven’t been given enough time together and as joint top scorers, they are hardly prolific with 7 each in the league. However, at home, they have 6 goals in 16 starts between them and down at the bottom, those sorts of figures are valuable.

Marko Arnautovic

Thinking of them as a partnership and keeping them fit could be crucial for David Moyes and I’m very certain he’s aware of that.

Their Lack Of Crucial Injuries

True, they have seven or so on the sidelines right now and they include Andy Carroll, but unlike Crystal Palace, they don’t have a whole bunch of their big-hitters out and believe me, it makes all the difference in this situation.

Manuel Lanzini, Chicharito, Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio are all currently fit and it means they remain capable of a result of some sort, against anyone they play.
