Predicted Chelsea Lineup To Face Manchester City: Surprise Start For The New Goalkeeper!

Share

The Champions take on the former Champions, Chelsea face Manchester City in a battle of the last two Premier League champions and it should get feisty. The team from London didn’t have the greatest start in their title defence as they somehow held onto a 2-2 draw against Swansea at home. While the result didn’t flatter Chelsea, the fact that they had to play a chunk of the game with 10-men shows their resilience as they ensured the club didn’t start the season on a losing note.

Manchester City on the other hand started the season like a locomotive, a 3-0 away win over West Brom was just the tonic required for the doubters who expected City to struggle in the league this season. Both clubs will be looking to lay down a marker this season, Chelsea though have a few selection issues with Thibaut Courtois suspended for the game as he picked up a red card against Swansea. We predict the starting lineup for Chelsea in this immense game.

Asmir Begovic

This is Begovic’s time to shine, he might not have expected to play such a big game so early in his Chelsea career but with Courtois suspended, could Begovic become Chelsea’s number one after this game?

Branislav Ivanovic

Ivanovic had a horrible time in the last game but he needs to be at his best for a tough game against the Citizens.

Gary Cahill

Cahill is the number one choice for Chelsea to play alongside John Terry and both the Englishmen should start the game.

John Terry

The captain of the club, Terry cannot be dropped in this all-important tie and would look to keep a clean sheet for Chelsea.

Cesar Azpilicueta

The best left-back at the club could be getting some competition from Baba Rahman, but he should continue in his role for this game at least.

Nemanja Matic

The destroyer in midfield, Nemanja Matic would have to keep Yaya Toure in check that could set up a great battle to keep an eye on all game long.

Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas would need to be the master in midfield for Chelsea to have any chance of coming back from the Etihad with a positive result.

Willian

The Brazilian might not have the flair or ability of the other winger in the club but he is one of the hardest workers in the league and it is his work ethic which gets him into the team, amongst other things.

Oscar

Oscar might be a bit of a doubt as he has a niggle but he could start for Chelsea against City in his regular role, playing right behind the striker.

Eden Hazard

The player of the year last season, Hazard would be the go to guy for the Blues as they need to get their season going now.

Diego Costa

The Spaniard didn’t look 100% against Swansea in the last game but would have to be at his best if Chelsea are to get anything from this game.
