Manchester United‘s long term target, Goncalo Guedes, has bid his goodbyes to his club teammates and fans of Benfica, according to British reports. The Portuguese winger is close to leaving the club in January, and his preferred destination is Manchester United.
According to reports, Portugal newspapers suggests that Guedes could join Manchester United or PSG in the January transfer window. The player wasn’t picked in Benfica’s 4-0 win against Tondela this weekend. He was dropped from the match day squad which has fueled further speculation about his future.
United have been closely following the winger’s development for some time now. And Mourinho’s scouts have watched him on several occasions over the past six months, and the club even sent a delegation to run the rule over the talented young winger last year.
Rui Vitoria, the Benfica manager, didn’t sound absolutely convincing when asked about Guedes. He admitted that he has been given no indication that the player would leave in January, and it is up to the President of Benfica to make the final call.
Guedes progressed through Benfica’s youth system after joining their academy in 2005. The 20-year-old made his first-team debut for the club in 2014 and has established himself as an important member of Vitoria’s squad. He has scored seven goals and provided eight assists this term.
Rumors also claim that Guedes could be a replacement for Memphis Depay, who left Old Trafford for Lyon earlier this week.
