Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways against Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend after picking up a 2-1 victory. It was a nervy end for Mauricio Pochettino’s men who ultimately held on to take all three points.
Spurs return to take on Watford in the League Cup this week. The Hornets have already stunned the Lilywhites once this season and are very much capable of doing it once again. Javi Gracia’s men have started the season in splendid form and are very much capable of taking on any team on their day.
Pochettino will be worried that Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm are both out injured. Apart from long-term absentees, Spurs have no new injury concerns to worry about. The manager will be boosted by the return of Dele Alli.
Gazzaniga wasn’t really tested against the Seagulls but he will continue in goal with Lloris and Vorm out injured.
Aurier has looked explosive going forward. He should start at right-back in place of Kieran Trippier.
The Colombian has looked good since making the move to Tottenham. He has missed the last two games and will start at the back for this one.
Alderweireld is starting to show true leadership at the back this season. He is a proper centre-back who is so crucial to this team.
Davies has been very consistent since arriving from Swansea. His marauding runs down the flank have always been fruitful.
Though Wanyama hasn’t earned a regular role under Pochettino, he is still a massive presence in the middle of the park. The Kenyan will start in central midfield.
This is a good chance for Dier to put in a good performance after starting in poor form this season.
Lamela is in good form in front of the goal and will now be aiming to maintain some consistency this season. He will start on the right-hand side of the midfield.
Eriksen was unable to pull the strings against the Seagulls but he is their main source of supply and will be aiming to destroy Watford.
