Why Pochettino Has Everyright To Blame Tottenham’s £30m Summer Signing

A standout out display at the European Championships earned Moussa Sissoko a move to White Hart Lane on summer transfer deadline day.

The French international couldn’t help Newcastle stave off relegation, and he was quick to let the whole world know he wouldn’t be playing in the Championship with Newcastle.

Sissoko’s energetic display for France at the summer competition saw Deschamps even bench Kante for him in the hosts’ run to the final. After such splendid campaign, everybody agreed he was far too better for 2nd division football.

Convinced that he has finally found his man, the one to bring much-needed power to his midfield, Pochettino wasted no time in forking out £30million for the 27-year-old midfielder.

However, all that energy and dedicated displays have been missing for a while now, and the Tottenham tactician subsequently dropped him out of the squad for the Chelsea clash altogether.

After been questioned by journalists as to why he left out Sissoko of his matchday squad for such a crucial game, Mauricio responded,

“Football is not about money. It is about players being better, and that they show on the training ground that they are better than another team-mate and that they deserve to be involved or not. In my opinion, I need to take the decisions and I believe that the players that started in the game and the players on the bench deserved to be involved in the game.”

This perhaps summed it all up,

“There’s nothing else to [read into] it. You sign a player and then you expect something, and you don’t find what you expected”

Sissoko sure deserves to be dropped to the bench and Poch was right to aim a dig at a player that has failed to live up to the billing.

A club like Tottenham don’t splash such amount on a player for the purpose of benching him, and he just hasn’t performed well enough to convince anyone of his abilities.

The woes of the former Toulouse star have seen him play just 6 Premier League games for Spurs, starting 4 of them. A 3-match ban for an elbow on Bournemouth’s Harry Arter saw him miss out of the Leicester and Arsenal games, while he didn’t make the West Ham matchday squad upon his return.

And that definitely would have boiled down to inability to impress the coach during the training. Nevertheless, he was given another chance to prove his worth during midweek’s Champions League decider against Monaco.

He was thrown into action to help bring his power to the table and press the French side further down their half, but he couldn’t do anything quite remarkable for the 15 minutes he spent on the pitch.

At the moment, youngsters Onomah, and N’Koudou are above him in the pecking order, and apart from his brilliant display during the 2-nil win over City, Sissoko has largely been very ordinary since arriving from Saint James’ Park in a deal that makes him the most expensive player in the current squad.

No goal, no assist, 6 chances created and just one worthy performance in a Spurs Jersey, this isn’t the Sissoko Tottenham paid through the nose for. And for Pochettino to publicly criticise him, he has really underwhelmed with his attitude, performance and everything else.

He needs to get his acts together very quickly, as Mauricio could be forced to make a drastic action just 3 months into a 5-year contract. The Argentine seems to be giving up on him already.
