West Bromwich Albion 1-2 Burnley: Clarets Hand The Baggies Their 8th Consecutive Loss

Burnley made it three wins in a row today as they beat West Brom. The Clarets seem to have quietly recaptured some of their early season form.

West Brom, on the other hand, suffered their 8th loss in a row and relegation seems like a foregone conclusion for the Baggies. This game summed up their season really, with the side lacking the urgency required in order to have any hope of survival!

The scoring was opened with a scintillating finish from Ashley Barnes before Chris Wood scored a second for Burnley. West Brom scored in the 83rd minute but it only proved to be a consolation for them.

Burnley Player Ratings

Nick Pope – 6.5/10

Nick Pope returned from his call-up to the England squad with a solid performance between the sticks. Didn’t have much to do apart from two good saves to keep his team ahead.

Matthew Lowton – 7/10

Nothing spectacular from the 28-year-old left-back. Was decent at the back and a pretty routine performance.

James Tarkowski – 6/10

Another Burnley player to return from the England set-up, put in a fairly average performance in this game. Won four of his aerial challenges and made two good challenges but he’ll be disappointed that he didn’t keep a clean sheet.

Ben Mee – 7/10

A solid performance from Ben Mee at the back, dominating in the air and passing the ball around well for his team.

Ben Mee

Stephen Ward – 8/10

Stephen Ward absolutely dominated down the left for Burnley today and really kept the West Brom attackers at bay. He won seven aerial challenges, put in a couple of crunching tackles and also played some great passes. A great performance.

Georges-Kevin N’koudou – 7/10

Nkoudou had a very good game and was a good creative outlet for Burnley today. Had a couple of completed dribbles and two shots on target but he also worked hard in defence, breaking up the play and putting in a few good tackles.

Jack Cork – 6.5/10

A good solid game from Jack Cork who marshalled the middle well. Had a high pass success rate and kept possession well.

Ashley Westwood – 6.5/10

Another player who had a fairly ordinary game. Did nothing badly but did nothing excellent either.

Aaron Lennon – 8/10

A constant thorn for West Brom, he took on players down the right flank and got a good assist for Ashley Barnes’ goal.

Ashley Barnes

Ashley Barnes – 7/10

Always a player to throw himself into challenges and put his weight about to win the ball for his team. He had a good game offensively, registering 3 shots and scoring a spectacular goal.

Chris Wood – 8/10

Another bulky striker who knows how to win the ball and win fouls for his team. Also did very well offensively and managed 4 shots on goal. Managed to grab a goal late on.

Substitutes

Sam Vokes – 6/10

Replaced Chris Wood after 78 minutes but didn’t really do anything of note.

Jeff Hendrick – 6/10

Came on in the 68th minute to replace N’Koudou. Made the Burnley midfield more solid and compact but didn’t really do anything special.
