Glenn Middleton netted either side of half-time, while Nikola Katic and Alfredo Morelos were also on target as Rangers thrashed Ayr United 4-0 to book their place in the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup.
Nikola Katic opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 16th minute from a Ryan Kent cross before Andy Halliday released Glenn Middleton with a dinked ball. The youngster calmly slotted past the goalkeeper to double Rangers’ lead in the first half.
Rangers picked up where they left off after the break and Alfredo Morelos got his goal just before being replaced. Steven Gerrard’s men added gloss to the scoreline when Middleton collected another Halliday pass before rifling beyond goalkeeper Ross Doohan, thereby booking the Gers’ place in the last four.
Made an excellent save in the first half but was largely a spectator in the second.
Flanagan provided good width down the right-hand side and was defensively diligent as well.
Katic’s header was powerful and Ayr United goalkeeper had no chance. His header set Rangers on the way to the victory.
Worrall kept things tight at the back alongside Katic. A positive display from the on-loan defender.
Halliday, filling in at left-back, combined magnificently with Middleton throughout the game. Other than providing two assists, he had a comfortable evening.
Protected the back four very well. McCrorie broke the opposition’s play with his tackling and provided a firm base for his teammates to excel in the attack.
It was his cross that was headed home by Katic. Kent was a bundle of energy on the right, terrorising Ayr’s defence with his explosive pace and directness.
Ejaria’s passing was crisp, simple and accurate. He showed great energy in the middle of the park. While he wasn’t as dynamic as he was earlier this season, it was a good show from the youngster.
Looked a bit rusty, which is understandable but overall, Dorrans had a decent game in the midfield. Needs a game or two more to get back to full sharpness.
Middleton had been pushing for a start and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Scored two fantastic goals that underlined his talent and the potential he possesses. Could have scored a dream hat-trick but he lacked the composure as he hit the side netting.
Led the attack very well. A booking for dissent in the first half means the Colombian striker will miss the semi-finals of the competition. Redeemed himself with a goal after the break but will be annoyed with himself for his on-field conduct.
Replaced Morelos in the second half and showed great energy.
Rossiter came on for Dorrans and did well in the middle of the park.
Kelly had 20 minutes to make an impact and he did leave a positive impression.
