Celtic made history on Saturday, when they beat Motherwell 2-0 in the finals of the Scottish Cup, to clinch a 2nd consecutive domestic treble.
Having already lifted the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Premiership, Brendan Rodgers’ side came into Saturday’s encounter at the Hampden Park with the chance of writing themselves into history books once again.
They managed to do just that, courtesy of two first-half goals from midfield duo Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham in the 11th and the 25th minute respectively.
The veteran Scottish goalkeeper made a fingertip save to deny Curtis Main early in the second period. Didn’t have much to do but would have been relieved to see Gael Bigirimanna’s free-kick hit the crossbar late on.
The Swedish full-back was solid at the back and provided an outlet going down the right flank. Was involved in the lead up to McGregor’s opener.
Looked far more reliable than he has in recent weeks, dealing with most of the things that Motherwell threw at him. Booked late in the game.
Continued to display his positivity and confidence by stepping out of the defence at every chance he got, especially in the first period. Steady in defence.
Was at the receiving end of some rough challenges but came out unscathed. Put in a real shift down the left flank, always looking to provide width going forward. Looked exhausted towards the end.
Sat deep in the middle and marshalled things quietly but to great effect, as he does week in week out. His presence allowed his midfield partner the license to get forward.
Starting in the midfield ahead of Stuart Armstrong, the Frenchman sealed the outcome of the game with a well-hit strike in the first period to make it 2-0. He was a positive influence going forward.
The Scottish winger wasn’t at his best on the day, adding to his recent downturn in form. Fancied a shot at goal in the second half but failed to make it count.
The Australian midfielder, fresh after signing a new five-year contract, was his usual busy self in the attacking third, buzzing around with purpose. Created a few openings but couldn’t convert.
Opened the scoring for the Hoops with a ferociously struck half-volley in the 11th minute. Always seems to up his game for the big occasions and this was no different.
May have failed to get on the scoresheet but the Frenchman caused the Motherwell backline all sorts of problems with his pace and movement. Teed up Ntcham for his goal and came close to scoring with a headed effort.
Replaced Rogic in the 72nd minute. Made a couple of decent runs forward.
Came on for Ajer in the 76th minute.
An injury-time substitute for Forrest.
