Tottenham Player Ratings vs Inter Milan: Here’s how Spurs fared

Tottenham Hotspur were unable to hold onto their lead as Inter Milan came back to win 2-1 on the opening night of the Champions League. Spurs were once again lacklustre in possession and rarely threatened the Italian outfit’s goal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have now lost three consecutive games and the pressure is starting to mount on the manager. A fortunate deflected shot from Christian Eriksen found its way into the back of the net right after the start of the second half.

A brilliant volley from Mauro Icardi then saw Inter initiate the comeback and a stoppage-time header from Matias Vecino sealed the victory for the Serie A side. A third straight loss means Spurs have to take a reality check at their performances and make amends.

Tottenham Player Ratings

Michel Vorm (7/10)

Vorm made one or two decent saves but was left helpless for the two brilliant strikes from Inter.

Serge Aurier (8/10)

Aurier’s raids down the right flank posed all sorts of problems for Inter. However, he was caught out of position on one or two occasions.

Jan Vertonghen (8/10)

The Belgian was solid at the back and made a number of vital tackles.

Jan Vertonghen

Davinson Sanchez (6/10)

Davinson looked shaky throughout the game and lunged into everything. The defender was yellow carded as well.

Ben Davies (6/10)

Davies was unable to influence the game going forward and didn’t have much defending to do on his side.

Eric Dier (6/10)

Dier gave away the ball on a number of occasions and his work rate wasn’t up to the mark on the night.

Mousa Dembele (7/10)

Dembele was fruitful with his distribution and running in the middle of the park but the Belgian wasn’t good with his defending.

Mousa Dembele

Erik Lamela (7/10)

Lamela threatened Handanovic a number of times but was unfortunate not to find the back of the net. He was a constant menace going forward.

Christian Eriksen (9/10)

Eriksen was superb with his distribution and created a number of chances. All of his shots were on target and the Dane picked up a goal as well.

Son Heung-Min (6/10)

Son might be feeling fatigued after the Asian Games because the South Korean wasn’t his usual energetic self.

Harry Kane (6/10)

Kane scuppered a golden chance in the final third and barely threatened on the night.

Substitutes

Lucas Moura (6/10)

The Brazilian looked dangerous whenever he got on the ball but didn’t have enough time to settle into the match.

Harry Winks (5/10)

Winks came on and played simple football with crisp passing. But it wasn’t enough to keep Spurs in the lead.

Danny Rose (N/A)

Rose was brought on in the dying minutes of the game and couldn’t stop Inter from scoring.
