Celtic 5-0 Rangers: Hoops Clinch The Premiership Title In Style

Celtic lifted their 7th consecutive Scottish Premiership title when they beat bitter rivals Rangers 5-0 at the Parkhead on Sunday afternoon. 

Just thirteen minutes into the game, Celtic were up and running when on-loan striker Odsonne Edouard found the net from close range after being set up by Kieran Tierney. The young forward was on the mark again as five minutes from half-time, he struck a brilliant finish past Jak Alnwick.

Four minutes later, the Hoops had the game in the bag when James Forrest beat three Gers players on his way to smashing the ball into the net to make it 3-0.

A minute into the second period, Celtic heaped more misery on the Gers as Tom Rogic made it four for the home team after a scramble in the box.

Six minutes later, Callum McGregor also got into the act of scoring from a simple tap-in after being played in by Edouard for the Hoops’ fifth.

Celtic Player Ratings

Craig Gordon – 6/10

The veteran shot-stopper had very little to do for large phases of the game. Showed alertness when he needed to.

Mikael Lustig – 6/10

Returning from an injury, the Swedish full-back put in a solid display at right-back for the Hoops against the dangerous Jamie Murphy.

Dedryck Boyata – 7/10

Having been off-colour in recent weeks, the Belgian stepped up in a big way and made sure Jason Cummings had little to work with at the top.

Kristoffer Ajer – 7/10

The Norwegian youngster put in another solid and reliable display at the back for Celtic. Was never really troubled by the Gers’ attack.  

Kieran Tierney – 7.5/10

The left-back was in his elements on Sunday. Set Edouard up for the opening goal with a brilliant cross early in the game and was always a threat on the overlap.

Scott Brown – 7/10

Solid if not spectacular. The Celtic skipper kept the Bhoys ticking in the middle of the park without allowing the visitors to settle into the rhythm.

Olivier Ntcham – 7.5/10

The Frenchman started off very positively after a poor display last weekend. Had a shot saved by Jak Alnwick early in the game and never really let off from there on as he kept causing the Gers all sorts of troubles.

James Forrest – 8.5/10

Gave Andy Halliday a torrid time throughout the game with his movement and sharpness. Got the assist for Edouard’s second before scoring the third goal for the Hoops with a moment of brilliance.

Tom Rogic – 7/10

The attacking midfielder zipped around in the final third but the final ball wasn’t always up to the mark. Showed good awareness and composure to score the fourth goal.

Callum McGregor – 7/10

Starting out on the left-hand side, the Scottish international showed good incisive movement throughout and scored his team’s 5th strike with a simple finish.

Odsonne Edouard – 8.5/10

The on-loan striker was the star for the Hoops, opening the scoring with a tidy strike before doubling the lead with a spectacular goal. Got the assist for McGregor’s goal in the second half. Couldn’t get his hat-trick. Was taken off to a rousing ovation.  

Substitutes

Scott Sinclair – 5/10

Replaced McGregor in the 67th minute. Didn’t make much of an impact.  

Jack Hendry – 5/10

On for Lustig for the last twenty minutes or so. Didn’t do much of note. 

Leigh Griffiths – N/A

On for Edouard with less than 15 minutes left to be played. Should have done better with a chance.
