Opinion: How Manchester United Will Lineup If They Manage To Sign James Rodriguez?

Share

According to reports, Real Madrid are ready to sell midfielder , to fund new transfers. The Columbian has scored five goals in 19 appearances this season but Real Madrid will look to sell a player before making a marquee signing, similar to what they did two years ago when they sold Angel Di Maria before signing James Rodriguez.

James Rodriguez

The Columbian’s preferred position is the number 10 role, however he can also play as a centre-forward and as a winger. Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports that Real will be looking to sell Rodriguez because they cannot find a club to buy Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Now that it looks like Cristiano cannot find a team to buy him, and Real Madrid cannot find a team to sell Ronaldo to, they have to look for alternatives to finance the new signings they plan to make.” “So, as a consequence Real Madrid want to sell James.”

According to reports, Manchester United will be looking to sign Rodriguez if he leaves Real Madrid. So how would the midfielder fit in at United?

United already have Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney who could play in the number 10 role, so it would be interesting to see what formation United would use to fit these players into the team. Mata and Rodriguez could play behind Anthony Martial and these two would find pockets of space and create chances for the young Frenchman. The strength of James and the technical ability of Mata could be a brilliant partnership behind Martial.

This season has been United’s lowest points tally at this point of the campaign and they have had a real lack of goals this season so bringing in someone like Rodriguez could give them an injection of pace and creativity. Not only does he create goals, but he scores them too, and some of them are absolute screamers. We all remember his Puskas award-winning goal in the 2014 World Cup.

His movement and flair will certainly be admired by the United fans and it would create a larger competition for places at Old Trafford which could improve the player’s performances.
