Arsenal are undergoing the biggest change at the club in decades as a new coach has arrived at the helm for the first time in 22 years. Unai Emery has arrived at the Emirates, replacing the long-serving Arsene Wenger at the end of last season. The Gunners have made a whole lot of changes to gear up for the upcoming season, with people coming in on and off the pitch.
Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis, Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi have signed for Arsenal already in the summer transfer window.
Unai Emery was quick to express his satisfaction with the squad he has but here’s why Arsenal still need to sign Cristian Pavon, who has a release clause of £37.5m.
Arsenal have a lot of players who have quality on the ball and can pass it around all day long. However, the team misses those tricky wingers who can be direct and help the team in games when the passing game isn’t working for them.
Arsenal have often used Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Iwobi out on the wings but the truth is that none of them is a natural winger. Ozil lacks pace to be effective on the wings, while Iwobi tends to come central more often than not.
If Arsenal sign Pavon, who has a lot of pace and trickery, they will finally have that real winger who can add a new dimension to their game.
Although Emery is a coach who likes to have the ball, he differs from Arsene Wenger in the sense that he aims for quicker transitions which need quick players. The Spaniard has always had pacy players in his sides to get further up the pitch as fast as possible.
Emery’s philosophy is to press the opposition into mistakes and then quickly break the attack to hurt them when they are most vulnerable.
This style of play means that Emery would need Pavon or a similar player to execute his game plan to the best effect.

Arsenal are as good as anyone when it comes to passing the ball and playing the elegant brand of football but clearly, they have been lacking something over the recent years which has resulted in them getting out of their usual Champions League places. The Gunners can do with a bit of directness in their game to be more effective and Pavon could be the man to help them achieve this.
