West Ham Opinion: Why the Hammers should target Jean Michael Seri?

Fulham need a remarkable turnaround if they are to avoid dropping straight back into the Championship. A 3-1 defeat at West Ham condemned the Cottagers to another defeat that left them 19th on the table, eight points adrift of safety.

The club had high hopes upon their return to the Premier League after a four-year absence and spent heavily in the transfer windows to stay in the top-flight for many years to come.

But Fulham have been miserable to watch and Claudio Ranieri, who replaced Slavisa Jokanovic at the helm in November, has failed to inspire the team.

Ranieri’s men look devoid of energy, directionless and beaten and are very likely to play Championship football next campaign. Should that happen, Fulham could lose a lot of top-quality players in the summer. One such player will be Jean Michael Seri, who became the club’s record signing last summer.

It’s certain Jean Michael Seri won’t stay at Craven Cottage if the club doesn’t play Premier League football in the 2019/20 campaign. That said, West Ham should make a move for the Ivorian midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Jack Wilshere arrived at West Ham on a free transfer from Arsenal last summer amidst a lot of expectations but has managed just five league appearances this season. He has been plagued with injuries once again which has derailed his chances of proving his worth to the West Ham supporters.

Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez’s injury problems coupled with Pedro Obiang’s inconsistent performances has left Manuel Pellegrini with no option but to play Declan Rice and Mark Noble regularly in midfield.

Pellegrini cannot afford to rest neither Rice nor Noble due to injuries, which clearly tells how badly the Hammers lack depth in the squad.

Seri would not only bring quality but add depth as well to the West Ham squad. Regarded as a technically-gifted and tactically-versatile midfielder, the Ivorian is comfortable in defensive, central and attacking roles in the centre of the park.

He uses his low centre of gravity to glide past players and creates chances for his teammates. The 27-year-old boasts of a marvellous range of passing and tidy ball distribution skills, both short and long, which allow him to dictate the rhythm of the game and switch the play.

Seri is an industrious, ball-winning midfielder whose style of play would suit under Pellegrini at the London Stadium.

Conclusion

Seri possesses all the attributes to be the long-term replacement for the ageing Noble. Hence, Pellegrini should start keeping tabs on the Ivorian midfielder and hope their London rivals Fulham taste relegation.
