It’s official. Liverpool has confirmed their latest signing in Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United.
The Liverpool’s official website has posted the confirmation about the signing of the 25-year-old for a reported fee of £25 million. This makes it Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer. The player is still in the United Kingdom but is expected to join the Reds in the United States of America for their pre-season tour.
There were interest from Everton and Tottenham too but the Reds successfully beat off competition and snatched the Dutch international from the recently relegated Newcastle. The Magpies manager Rafael Benitez wanted to keep hold of Wijnaldum but the lure of Premier League was too much for the Spanish manager to handle.
Last season Wijnaldum played every game in the league and scored 11 goals, highest for the club. Jurgen Klopp said that he had been following the player’s career and has been impressed by what he has seen.
