Norwich City are the most in-form team in the Championship at the moment, having mustered five consecutive league wins before settling for a 0-0 draw vs Hull last night. Before the international break, the Canaries clinched a 4-3 thriller over Millwall, courtesy of two injury-time goals.
It’s been a classic turnaround of fortunes for Norwich City in the last couple of months. Just one win in their opening six games and 11 goals conceded had manager Daniel Farke sweating over his job. However, a 1-0 victory win against Middlesbrough has proved to be a catalyst for 10 wins in their next 13 games, leading them at the top of the table.
Norwich have certainly laid down a marker in the Championship this season, surprising many with their sudden surge to the top of the pile. Massive credits to Daniel Farke for turning around the club’s fortunes but in reality, it’s just the start for him.
The German tactician needs to keep churning out results consistently to be in contention for promotion in a highly-congested fight this campaign.
And for doing that, he needs to make a couple of additions in January to keep his squad well prepared for the taxing second half of the season.
Without any doubts, Farke must prioritise strengthening the defence in the New Year but he should also pursue an attacker to bolster his forward department. Signing players in the mid-season transfer window would be a difficult one for Norwich, so Farke should try using the loan market wisely.
Truth be told, he would do a wonderful job if he manages to land Chelsea teenage prodigy Callum Hudson-Odoi on loan.
Impressing with his explosive performances in pre-season for Chelsea, many expected Callum Hudson-Odoi to get chances under new manager Maurizio Sarri. But the 18-year-old has yet to feature in the Premier League and apart from a couple of Europa League games, he has not been used much by Sarri.
Truly, it’s been a rather frustrating couple of months for the talented young attacker but getting regular opportunities ahead of Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro isn’t a walk in the park for any player.
Chelsea should allow Callum Hudson-Odoi to leave the club on loan in January to allow him the opportunity of playing regularly. A loan move would work wonders at the moment and Norwich must do everything to get the jet-heeled attacker in January.
Hudson-Odoi would add a lot of pace, dynamism and freshness to the Norwich attack. His frightening pace and unpredictability will be a terror for the Championship defenders. He is much more than a one-trick pony and would give Farke an option from the bench as well.
A temporary switch to Norwich would allow Hudson-Odoi to get some football under his belt that he so desperately needs. It would also benefit Chelsea as he would be able to continue his development in the highly competitive English second-tier.
