The Guardian has reported that Atletico Madrid are keen on a move for Chelsea man Marcos Alonso as the club look for replacements. Juanfran has already confirmed his departure and Filipe Luis is 33 years old, which leaves them without many options.
It’s why they’re after Alonso and it leaves Chelsea in need of a left-back. Their transfer ban does mean that they cannot bring in any new players but their loan army can help out.
That being said, here are three potential in-house replacements for Marcos Alonso:
Arguably the best option for manager Maurizio Sarri, the 24-year-old has done when called upon and is the best choice to replace Alonso if he does leave.
A class act, the Brazilian was one of Antonio Conte’s final signings before he left and has struggled to break into the first-team since.
However, while Sarri does prefer Alonso to Emerson, the Brazilian outdoes the Spaniard when it comes to defensive work-rate. Unlike the Real Madrid youth product, Emerson can actually defend and does a brilliant job of doing so.
His offensive abilities do need improving, but with time and the proper game-time that should change gradually. It’s one of the many reasons why the club doesn’t have to really look too far to change things around.
A very versatile player, the highlight of Moses’ Chelsea career was under Antonio Conte, where his physicality and athleticism saw him used as a wing-back. He flourished in that position, as it allowed him to show the club just what he could on a regular basis.
But with Conte leaving and Sarri getting appointed, the former Napoli boss saw no use for Moses. Since then, the Nigerian has been shipped out on loan but the Blues have inserted a recall clause which allows them to bring him back.
Combine that with his versatility and history as a left-back or a right-back and it makes the move a no-brainer. With time, or atleast until Chelsea can sign a replacement, Moses has the work-ethic and defensive nuance to do a great job as a replacement.
On loan at Newcastle United, the Brazilian hasn’t lived up to his potential since the move and that has seen Rafael Benitez reject a permanent deal. But that isn’t something that should get Kenedy down.
And with the transfer ban hitting Chelsea, it allows him a chance to win back his place. A versatile left-sided player, the Brazilian has played across the left side, often as a left-back and even as a left wing-back.

Chelsea should consider keeping the 23-year-old at the club and he has shown the ability to seamlessly slip into a defensive position when needed.
