The Leicester Mercury has reported that Newcastle United have started looking at potential managers, who could replace Rafa Benitez, with Bruno Genesio being one of the targets. Currently at Olympique Lyonnais, the 52-year-old will step down at the end of the season, according to reports.
While they do have Rafael Benitez at the helm of their club, the former Liverpool boss will be out of contract at the end of the season. That gives Newcastle United a big problem, especially given how well Benitez has done since taking charge of the club. Last season, the Magpies finished in the top half of the table.
That was a fantastic achievement, given the small budget and lack of world-class talent that Benitez had at his disposal. They’ve spent a majority of this season in or around the relegation zone, thanks to a successful February. This coincided with the arrival of Miguel Almiron, the club’s record signing.
Bruno Genesio could potentially help ease the transition if it is to take place. His preffered formation is either a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1, both of which can be utilized with the personnel at Newcastle.
The 52-year-old is great with young players. The likes of Lucas Toussart, Tanguy Ndombele, and Houssem Aouar are all great examples, showcasing Genesio’s propensity to use younger players.
This bodes well for the Magpies and their lack of heavy spending, as it puts an emphasizes on youth.
That being said, losing Rafael Benitez will not be ideal. The Spaniard is unhappy with a few issues (Mirror) and if they do add someone like Bruno Genesio, he will also demand the same.
