Newcastle United travel to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon to take on Burnley in the Premier League clash. The Magpies are currently on a three-game unbeaten run and are placed 11th on the league table.
The once-dominant English team haven’t been at their best form for a long time and going into this match, they would know it is a crucial one. A win would keep them close to the upper half of the table, with several bottom-placed teams aiming to reach higher.
Steve Bruce seems to have made the team better over time and they displayed a stellar performance against Manchester City earlier. They would be going into this game with so much confidence.
However, Burnley, on the other hand, had a night to forget against Tottenham last weekend and would be hoping to overcome that with a win.
Injuries have been a concern for Steve Bruce this season as many of his first-choice players are out against Burnley. Allan Saint-Maximin, Ciaran Clark and Ki Sung-Yeung have joined Matt Ritchie and Jamaal Lascelles on the sidelines and their return is unknown.
Whereas, injuries of late to DeAndre Yedlin and in-form Jonjo Shelvey have put them in a doubtful situation for this game.
The Slovakian has been excellent for Newcastle this season. He would retain his spot as he is the undisputed first-choice under Steve Bruce.
Yedlin’s doubtful nature could give way to Manquillo, who started last weekend. He will be expected to support the team’s attack.
The 30-year-old is capable of playing on both sides of the central defence. With several injuries to their backline, he must be starting in this spot.
The Swiss’ presence in the heart of the defence would be a big relief to Steve Bruce, who has lost captain Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark to injuries. Schar would be hoping to put in a solid performance by taking charge of the backline.
Dummett should be the third man in their defence and has been playing regularly this season. Should start again.
Although he was poor in the opening 45 minutes against the Saints, his second-half performance was excellent. He has made this spot for himself since arriving last summer. His qualities to help the attack has been astonishing. He would start for sure.
The Ghanaian hasn’t started many games this season but this might be his chance to prove himself after the injury to in-form Saint-Maximin.
He has been a bright spot in Newcastle’s inconsistent performances. He was at his best last weekend and has been a key member in the squad. He would be an undoubted starter.
The homegrown player has shown qualities of making it big and was brilliant against Manchester United earlier in the season. Shelvey’s absence has made way for him and would be hoping to control the game against Burnley.
The Brazilian needs to step up his game. He has played in this position on many occasions for Hoffenheim and would be deployed on the wings to make way for Andy Carroll up front.
The former Liverpool man has been troubled by injuries this term but is expected to put in a big performance like he did in the last outing.
