Newcastle United opinion – Magpies should give Elias Sorensen a chance

According to a report in Blackpool Gazette, young Newcastle striker Elias Sorensen was left frustrated when his loan move to Blackpool turned out to be a big failure.

The 19-year-old, who is playing for the youth teams at Newcastle, made a move to the Seasiders in the January transfer window. But he returned to his parent club last month after making just one appearance (h/t Blackpool Gazette).

With that disappointment behind, the teenager is now aiming to work harder and earn a chance in the first-team. He felt he needed more opportunities to prosper in his loan spell (h/t Blackpool Gazette).

Back at Newcastle, Sorensen has been doing well for the youth teams, both at U21 and U23 level. Hence, it wouldn’t be a bad idea if the Magpies’ first-team manager took him to the senior squad and offered him opportunities. Here’s why it would be a profitable move for both parties:

Elias Sorensen

Sorensen is a talented player who would do well if given a chance

Elias Sorensen arrived at Newcastle in 2016 as a youth striker and went straight to the academy. The Danish U21 international has impressed in every age group he has been a part of.

During the 2016-17 season, when he played in the U18 Premier League, the 19-year-old scored 4 goals in 11 appearances, which became 10 goals and 6 assists in 20 appearances the following year.

Looking at the returns this campaign so far, apart from a horrific month at Blackpool, the Dane has scored 16 goals and supplied two assists in 20 appearances in all competitions at U23 and U21 level for Newcastle.

Hence, if there is a player who is knocking at the door with his consistent performances at the youth level – it is Elias Sorensen.

He is a proper centre-forward with raw pace to stretch the defence, dribbling skills to bamboozle the defenders and good finishing abilities to give a headache to the goalkeepers.

If we look at the situation, Newcastle are struggling to finalise Salomon Rondon’s deal (h/t Daily Mail). Even if that is sorted out, they do not have much quality if the Venezuelan needs a partner or a backup.

Thus, Benitez should take Sorensen’s performances into consideration and bring him into the first-team. With the youngster ready to put his disappointment behind, he might be ready to really work hard and remain determined to come good sooner than later.
