Newcastle United opinion: N’Soki could be a real coup for the Magpies

According to The Sun, Newcastle United are currently mulling over a move for PSG left-back Stanley N’Soki, with the report claiming that the Magpies have agreed on a fee of £9.8million with the Ligue 1 giants to bring the youngster to Tyneside this summer.

The Sun, however, suggests that Newcastle are yet to agree to personal terms with the 20-year-old, who has a contract at the Parc des Princes until the summer of 2021.

Having already spent a staggering £40million to sign Brazilian forward Joelinton from Hoffenheim, the Toon Army need bargain deals to fix other areas of their squad.

N’Soki is not the only left-back on Newcastle’s radar, with wantaway Spurs star Danny Rose also on the club’s potential shortlist of targets.

However, Newcastle are struggling to meet the England international’s wage demands and manager Steve Bruce has already started looking for more affordable alternatives. (h/t Sun)

Born in Poissy, France, to parents of Congolese heritage, N’Soki rose through the youth ranks of PSG and broke into the first-team in the 2017-18 campaign, making his debut in a Ligue 1 victory over Caen on December 20, 2017.

The left-back made only a solitary senior appearance for the French champions in his debut season but he enjoyed a lot more exposure last term under new manager Thomas Tuchel, accumulating a total of 15 appearances in all competitions.

N’Soki, who is also capable of playing as a holding midfielder, has represented France at all youth levels from U-16 to U-21, although he still remains eligible to switch his international allegiance to Congo at the senior level.

At Newcastle, Matt Ritchie was slotted in as a left wing-back by Rafael Benitez last season but that is likely to change in the upcoming campaign, with Bruce now at the helm of affairs.

The Magpies have Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett as options in that area and while both are quite solid defensively, neither of them offers a lot to the attack.

To put things into perspective, Newcastle could solve their left-back conundrum with the signing of Stanley N’Soki from PSG this summer.

The Frenchman is regarded as an immensely talented player with the potential to go on and play at the highest level, and it is a no-brainer for the Magpies to get a deal over the line for the 20-year-old.

Looking at things from the player’s perspective, N’Soki has largely played second-fiddle to players like Juan Bernat and Layvin Kurzawa at the French capital but a move to Newcastle might give him a better chance of challenging for a regular starting role.

A modern-day attack-minded full-back with lightning pace, quick acceleration, as well as plenty of flair and trickery on the ball, N’Soki is a tireless worker down the flanks. He has the perfect blend of attributes to contribute equally to both the attack and the defence.

Strong in the tackle and adept at dealing with the transitions in play, the athletic left-back is also very dominant in the air, whilst his composure on the ball and passing ability are comparable to that of a holding midfielder.

Conclusion

A young and talented player with a potentially high resale value, Stanley N’Soki would perfectly fit in at Newcastle United.
