Newcastle United opinion: Should the Magpies sell Ayoze Perez?

Things need to change at St James’ Park if Newcastle United ever want to do well in the Premier League in the near future. Under Rafael Benitez, things have changed for the Magpies, as they finished amongst the top half of the Premier League last season.

But that won’t happen this season with just one game left. They sit in 14th place at the moment and even if they do win their final game in the Premier League, then at the very most, the Magpies will finish 13th.

However, the sheer fact that the Tyneside club have even survived this season is a big shock. The Magpies flirted with relegation for most of the season before Miguel Almiron’s arrival in January changed everything.

Since then, the club has not only managed to find their form again but they’ve managed to consistently find the net. That goes down to the form of Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez, with the two combinings well.

Together, the two have combined for 21 goals this season, creating nine as well, which shows how much the club depends on them. But with Perez scoring the majority of that total, it has seen him be heavily linked with a move away.

The likes of Napoli and even Tottenham have shown an interest, which is not good news (Sun). While Perez does have a lot to improve upon, he’s finally managed to show why the club bought him in the first place.

The Spaniard has become a consistent starter for Benitez and is one of the first names on his teamsheet. That shows just how much things have changed and why the Magpies need to do everything to try and keep him at the club.

At the age of 25, Perez is just hitting his best years. With Rondon’s future at the club uncertain, someone like Ayoze Perez will end up proving very valuable. Add that to his work-ethic and Premier League experience, it makes him a very useful commodity.

Conclusion

Perez’s familiarity with the club and their tactics, plus his sheer presence on the field does help Newcastle. He has bailed them out time after time this season and that alone should be a big reason for doing everything to keep him.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
