Predicted Rangers line-up to face Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup

Rangers booked a Europa League play-off berth on Thursday after a 0-0 second-leg draw sealed a 3-1 aggregate victory over Maribor in the third qualifying round.

Buoyed by last week’s vital home win, the Gers only needed a stalemate to advance.

Now Steven Gerrard’s side shift their focus towards the Scottish League Cup where they travel to Kilmarnock on Sunday. Gerrard will hope his boys continue their winning momentum and advance to the next round of the Scottish League Cup at the weekend.

Team News

The trio of Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and James Tavernier returned to the starting line-up against Maribor, but a late injury to Lassana Coulibaly saw him drop out of the team. The Malian could miss the weekend’s game at Kilmarnock too.

Meanwhile, the likes of Graham Dorrans, Lee Wallace and Jordan Rossiter all remain sidelined.

Probable Rangers XI

Formation: 4-1-4-1

Manager: Steven Gerrard

Allan McGregor (GK)

McGregor was a man mountain against Maribor in the second leg of Europa League qualifiers and there is no reason why he should not start at Kilmarnock.

James Tavernier

James Tavernier (RB)

Tavernier has been excellent since being handed the skipper’s armband. He is expected to continue in his usual role at right-back.

Connor Goldson (CB)

Goldson is proving to be an excellent signing for the Ibrox outfit as he continues to consistently dish out solid displays in defence.

Nikola Katic (CB)

Another summer recruit who has seamlessly slotted in the team is Nikola Katic. The Croat is a sure starter against Kilmarnock.

Borna Barisic (LB)

Barisic missed the Maribor game due to him being cup-tied but he will return to the starting XI on Sunday. A leader on and off the field, Barisic’s pin-point deliveries can cause endless problems for Kilmarnock.

Ryan Jack

Ryan Jack (CDM)

Jack returned to face Maribor in the second leg of the Europa League qualifiers after recovering from a concussion. He did well in Slovenia and made some important interceptions. Against Kilmarnock, more of the same will be expected of him.

Scott Arfield (RCM)

A diligent worker, Arfield brings a lot of energy and calming influence to Rangers’ midfield. Following a good game against Maribor, he is expected to start at the weekend.

Ovie Ejaria (LCM)

An energetic presence to have in the midfield, Ejaria needs to bring consistency to his game to excel at a higher level.

Daniel Candeias (RW)

Candeias started at Maribor and showed great industry although he was not able to work his magic. Rangers aren’t firing on all cylinders yet and Gerrard could hand Candeias another start at the weekend to make his attack prosuce on a more regular basis.

Daniel Candeias

Ryan Kent (LW)

Kent will be hoping that he can get his career back on track under Gerrard at Ibrox after an extremely disappointing season last term. He is a quick forward and he clearly has potential.

Alfredo Morelos (ST)

Morelos has been nothing short of a revelation since Steven Gerrard’s arrival. Will start this weekend.
