Solid van der Hoorn, disappointing Carroll – The best and the worst rated Swansea players vs Birmingham

Share

Full Time: Birmingham City 0-0 Swansea City

A below-par Swansea City held on to a goalless draw at Birmingham City to remain unbeaten this season after 3 games. Manager Graham Potter would be pleased with the result given the fact that the hosts were on top for most parts of the game.

Birmingham threw everything at the Swans, but were unable to break the deadlock. The latter couldn’t even manage a shot on target the entire game, which depicts the way the match went about.

Swansea City Player Ratings

Erwin Mulder (8.5)

A clean sheet for Mulder when his team were under the pump. He made several sharp saves and looked solid throughout.

Connor Roberts (7)

He was uncomfortable at times, but managed to stand his ground and clear the danger. Roberts made two vital far-post clearances when the pressure was on.

Mike van der Hoorn

Mike van der Hoorn (8.5)

The captain continues his impressive run of form for Swansea City. Stood up when required and did a lot of good things.

Joe Rodon (7.5)

Rodon started slowly but picked up pace as the game went on. He dealt well with the physicality.

Martin Olsson (5.5)

Olsson had a bad game against Jota’s power and pace. The Sweden international did recover in the second half.

Jay Fulton (5)

Fulton made too many mistakes playing in such a key area of the pitch. He was under pressure with and without the ball, making errors in possession as well.

Tom Carroll

Tom Carroll (4.5)

Carroll was very circumspect on the ball and laboured to track back and cover the defensive spaces. All in all, a night to forget.

Bersant Celina (6)

Celina was decent on more than a few occasions, but struggled for consistency and cleverness at times. A mixed bag.

Joel Asoro (5.5)

Asoro began the game well with a couple of bright surges. However, as the game progressed, the 19-year-old found it very tough.

Barrie Mckay (5)

McKay too struggled like the rest of his teammates. Created one lovely chance with a deft flick and that was all.

Oli McBurnie (5.5)

Provided an outlet for counter-attacks but unfortunately, couldn’t get much service. As a result, he tried to do too much with the ball when he had it.

Substitutes

Dan James (subbed on after 64 mins) (5)

Had very little chance to show what he can do. Birmingham were all over Swansea.

Leroy Fer (Subbed on after 64 mins) (6)

The Dutchman added some presence and verve in the midfield along with the desire to move the ball forward.

Matt Grimes (subbed on after 77 mins) (5)

Grimes had no chance of making a late impact, with his opponents pressing hard for a winner.
