Morgan In, Huth Out: Strongest 4-4-2 Leicester City Line-Up To Face Atletico Madrid

Predicted Leicester City Lineup To Take On Atletico Madrid

Leicester City will be hoping to pull off a miraculous turnaround when they take on Spanish giants Atletico Madrid at the King Power Stadium in the second leg of their quarter-final tie of the UEFA Champions League.

The Foxes will have to overturn a one-goal deficit, after losing their first leg at the Vicente Calderon 1-0, thanks to Antoine Griezmann’s first-half strike. But having managed to get the better of Sevilla in the previous round under similar circumstances, the belief within the Leicester squad will be high. They come into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and will be hoping to put up a better showing at home.

Team News

The biggest blow for Leicester City will be defensive stalwart Robert Huth, who will miss the tie due to suspension. However, captain Wes Morgan has returned to full training and may take his place in the line-up. Centre-back Yohan Benalouane was taken off due to a knock against Palace in the weekend, but it seemed more of a precautionary measure and he is expected to be available.

Striker Islam Slimani is likely to miss out due to a groin injury, while midfielder Nampalys Mendy is still not 100% fit. Molla Wague has been ruled out for the season.

Probable Leicester City Line-Up:

Formation: 4-4-2

Manager: Craig Shakespeare

Kasper Schmeichel (GK)

The Danish shot-stopper has been the hero for Leicester in their European campaign. He will have to produce another masterclass between the sticks if his team are to progress.

Danny Simpson (RB)

The former Newcastle United man has been a consistent performer for the Foxes over the course of the season. He will take his rightful spot on the right-hand side of the defence.

Wes Morgan (CB)

The captain has missed a good chunk of games due to a back problem over the past month. But with Huth unavailable due to suspension, he should come back into the line-up even if he is not 100%.

Yohan Benalouane (CB)

The Tunisian has deputised well in the absence of Morgan. He is expected to keep his place in the starting XI despite an injury scare over the weekend.

Christian Fuchs (LB)

The Austrian full-back’s forward runs and long throws could prove to be the key against a stubborn Atletico defence on Tuesday night.

Riyad Mahrez (RM)

Mahrez hasn’t had the best of the weeks, but his class is undoubted. He will need to step it up a notch if Leicester are to stand a chance against the Spanish side.

Danny Drinkwater (CM)

Was kept out of the starting XI during the weekend game keeping Champions League in mind. Should return to the starting XI in place of Andy King.

Wilfred Ndidi (CM)

The 20-year old has been a major influence in proceedings since Craig Shakespeare took over. He will keep his place in the middle of the park alongside Drinkwater.

Marc Albrighton (LM)

The 27-year old’s hard-work and efforts on the left-side will be absolutely vital for Leicester. His pinpoint crosses could be a cause of threat to the Atletico side.

Shinji Okazaki (ST)

The Japanese forward was rested against Palace. With Slimani also unavailable, he should return to the line-up in place of Leonardo Ulloa.

Jamie Vardy (ST)

The English international has been on a fine goal-scoring run in the past month or so. He needs to fire for Leicester if they are to go through.
