Tottenham Hotspur will go head to head against tenth-placed Watford FC at the White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon in Matchweek 32 of the Premier League.
The Lilywhites, who sit in seven points behind leaders Chelsea, have won all five of their previous league games, with the latest triumph coming against Swansea City during the midweek round of games. And boss Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to keep to keep the pressure on Chelsea with a win over the Hornets. The last time the two teams clashed, Tottenham came out on top with a 4-1 win and a similar performance could be on the cards on Saturday.
There is some good news for Tottenham fans with Mauricio Pochettino claiming that Victor Wanyama is fit to face Watford on Sunday. Other than that, Spurs will be without the services of star striker Harry Kane, left-back Danny Rose and young midfielder Harry Winks. Questions remain over captain Hugo Lloris’ involvement as well, after the Frenchman missed the Swansea game due to illness.
Here is how Tottenham could take the field on Saturday:
The Dutchman started the game against his former team during midweek and with Lloris’ availability still unconfirmed, Vorm could find himself between the sticks at the Lane.
The 23-year old started in his preferred midfield position against Swansea, but with Wanyama in line for a return, he could be thrust back into the three-man defence.
The Belgian international is a stalwart at the back for Tottenham and when fit, he is an undoubted selection in the playing XI.
Taking the final spot in the three-man backline will be Alderweireld’s compatriot Jan Vertonghen. The 29-year old is another name who is a shoo-in into the line-up when available.
On the right-side, we will continue to see the brilliant Kyle Walker. One of the best full-backs in the league, the Englishman is one of the main attacking outlets for Tottenham and a sure starter.
In the middle of the park, we expect Victor Wanyama to return to starting XI. The midfield enforcer missed the game against Swansea due to a back problem, but is fit again and should be reinstated to the team.
And alongside Wanyama, it will be his usual partner in crime, Mousa Dembele. The Belgian international is having his best season in Tottenham colours and has been a consistent performer.
With Danny Rose still not available, Ben Davies will keep his spot on the left-flank. The Welshman has put in some improved displays in recent weeks but needs to do so on a consistent basis.
The Danish international is one of the best creative midfielders in the game and will be in high spirits after a spectacular performance against Swansea. He will start the game in a more central role.
Another chief contributor in the late win over Swansea, Alli has been brilliant for the course of the season. He will play alongside Eriksen in this 3-4-2-1 setup for Tottenham.
And leading the line at the top will be 22-year old Vincent Janssen. The Dutchman has been bright in the last two games for Tottenham and made a decent impact against Swansea coming on from the bench. A depleted Watford defence could prove to be the perfect opportunity to get some goals under his belt.
