Why Middlesbrough must sign Jordan Hugill permanently

According to a report by Hartlepool Mail, high-flying Championship outfit Middlesbrough can sign on-loan striker Jordan Hugill permanently for a fee in the region of £6million. The report also states that Leeds United are eyeing the attacker.

With a bleak future at parent club West Ham United, this looks like a great deal for the 26-year-old, who has been enjoying a good run of form for the Teesside outfit lately.

Although his dive during the club’s game against Preston North End received a lot of criticism, it is safe to suggest that Hugill has rediscovered his scoring boots under Tony Pulis’ watchful eyes.

Considering his prospects back at West Ham, it goes without saying that his future looks rather doubtful. In fact, it would serve him better to exit the club as soon as possible and move to a place where he would do more than just warm the benches.

The powerful forward has barely featured under Manuel Pellegrini and he only made 3 appearances in the English top-flight. Hence, it came as no surprise that he was sent out on loan over the summer.

Hugill did not make an immediate impact at Boro. In fact, he went without scoring a single goal in his first 9 Championship appearances. But then he scored a fantastic brace during the club’s game against Wigan Athletic before the international break.

And from then on, he scored 3 goals in Boro’s next 3 games. One might argue that his goal tally is not impressive on the whole but given Pulis’ woes in the attacking third of the pitch, Hugill is once of their most in-form strikers right now.

The fact that Boro are fighting hard to secure promotion – and that they are in the final eight of the Carabao Cup – they should ensure that they have a strong and prolific forward who can score goals whenever needed.

Hence, he will have greater chances of making a name for himself at Boro than he would at West Ham. After all, the Hammers have the likes of Javier Hernandez, Lucas Perez, Michail Antonio, Andy Carroll and Marko Arnautovic all battling for a spot in the starting XI.

To be fair, Boro also have Britt Assombalonga, Rudy Gestede, Martin Braithwaite and Ashley Fletcher but out of the four, only Assombalonga and Braithwaite have made significant contributions in front of the goal. And of course, the man in question, Jordan Hugill.
