Championship leaders Norwich City keep their winning run going by beating Middlesbrough 1-0 away at Teesside. One Hernandez scored the only goal of the game, which was enough to win it for the Canaries in an evenly-fought contest.
The home side had the better of the open play in the first half when Daniel Ayala’s header hit the post. But Norwich showed class from the start of the second half.
Nine minutes into it, after Boro wasted several chances to clear the danger, Hernandez shaped up to curl a shot towards the far post, but whipped it in at the near post, taking Darren Randolph by surprise.
Teemu Pukki had two great chances to score but he couldn’t. Randolph made one wicked save to deny Finland striker from adding to his tally of league goals this season.
Hernandez had a presentable opportunity to put the game beyond doubt 15 minutes from time, but his tame shot fell easily into the arms of the Middlesbrough keeper.
Those misses nearly came to haunt Daniel Farke’s men, when Jordan Hugill found himself unmarked at the far post in the 90th minute, however the West Ham loanee mistimed his jump and missed a glorious chance.
At the end of the day, a grinding win for Norwich as they take one step closer to automatic promotion. They are currently five points clear at the top and the favourites to win the title as well.
