Mark Hughes to make 1 key change – Strongest 4-4-2 Southampton XI to face Brighton

Predicted Southampton line-up to face Brighton and Hove Albion

Southampton have made an uninspiring start to their Premier League campaign after narrowly missing out on relegation last season. The Saints are going to need to bring in some results or the pressure will start to mount on manager Mark Hughes, not that it already hasn’t.

The Saints take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the St. Mary’s this weekend. The Seagulls are winless in two games and this hands Southampton the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways.

Team News

Except Shane Long, Mark Hughes has a fully-fit squad to pick from. The manager must deploy his strongest team and come away with a win this weekend.

Probable Southampton XI

Manager: Mark Hughes

Formation: 4-4-2

Alex McCarthy (GK)

McCarthy has looked impressive after being handed a regular role this season. He should start against Brighton.

Cedric Soares (RB)

The Portuguese international has flourished under Mark Hughes so far and could hit new heights this season.

Cedric Soares

Jannik Vestergaard (CB)

The Dane has seamlessly settled down at his new club and Mark Hughes should play him at the back.

Wesley Hoedt (CB)

Hoedt has looked good after being partnered with Vestergaard at the back.

Ryan Bertrand (LB)

The Saints captain has picked up one goal so far and will be aiming to rack more up this season.

Mohamed Elyounoussi (RM)

The new signing is still settling in at the club but has shown glimpses of his quality going forward.

Mario Lemina (RCM)

Lemina’s defensive cover and set-piece prowess will be massive for the Saints in this game.

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg (LCM)

The midfielder scored a goal for the Saints last time out and will be confident ahead of the clash against the Seagulls.

Nathan Redmond (LM)

Redmond has failed to live up to his expectations this season, but the former Norwich City man still poses a massive threat with his pace and direct approach on the ball.

Nathan Redmond

Danny Ings (ST)

The Liverpool loanee looks refreshed after making the move to the Southcoast club. He should start this game as well.

Charlie Austin (ST)

Austin and Ings are the Saints’ most potent attacking threats. They should be partnered together up front.
