Mane Shines For Liverpool: The Best And The Worst Rated Liverpool Players vs Southampton

Share

After a 6-1 victory over Watford in the last round, Liverpool seem to have lost some momentum in the international break as they put in a lethargic performance in their league game against Southampton this weekend. They will be happy with a clean sheet but they failed to take their chances and took just a point from this game, giving Chelsea a chance to get to the top of the table at the end of the weekend. There were not many players that were impressive on the night and here are the player ratings for Liverpool for this game:

There were not many players that were impressive on the night and here are the player ratings for Liverpool for this game:

Loris Karius (6):

Hardly had a punch or a save to make as he kept to himself cheered on a comfortable night at the St Mary’s.

Nathaniel Clyne (5):

Put in a decent performance against his former side and also came close to scoring but failed to provide the kind of fluency needed for Liverpool in the final third.

Joel Matip (7):

Looks more and more as a world class player, Matip put in yet another impressive performance on the night. He kept the likes of Charlie Austin away from danger.

Dejan Lovren (6):

The former Southampton centre-back had a couple of nervy moments but he kept to his job and managed to keep Southampton away from his goal throughout the game.

James Milner (5):

Almost non-existent at times in the final third. Milner was not able to get the better of the Southampton defence but put in a decent job at the back.

Jordan Henderson (5):

Though tried to control the midfield for Liverpool, Henderson failed to dominate the game on the night and failed to set up chances for his side.

Emre Can (6):

Took on the attacking duties more than a couple of times and also gave away the ball in the midfield but put in an energetic performance that could have lifted the side.

Georginio Wijnaldum (5):

The Dutch international created a couple of chances for his side but he failed to get a foothold in the midfield. Klopp will know that he is not an able replacement for Lallana in the first team.

Sadio Mane (7);

The most exciting attacker for Liverpool on the night, Mane should have scored against his former team. He wasted a couple of chances giving his side just a point.

Roberto Firmino (6):

The Brazilian was energetic like always but he lacked a bit of creativity and also missed the best chance of the game for both sides on an average night.

Philippe Coutinho (5):

Though tried to weave his magic at times, Coutinho showed a lot of lethargy on the field coming back from international duty. Maybe he should have been rested for this game.

Subs:

Daniel Sturridge (5):

The English international came on with just over 5 minutes to play and did not have enough time to have an effect on the game.

Divock Origi (5):

Brought into the game in the 90th minute, Origi could have made a difference if he was brought earlier as he showed with the few touches he got on the night.
