Statistical Comparison – Zlatan Ibrahimovic vs Sergio Aguero

Manchester United and Manchester City have had entirely different seasons, as Pep Guardiola failed to lift any silverware for the first time in his career, while Jose Mourinho continued his legacy, lifting the League Cup and the Europa League trophy in his first season at Old Trafford.

Both managers spent insane money on their squads at the start of the season and have had some star players to call upon in crunch times. Their top goalscorers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Aguero have had a delightful time in front of goal this season. But who has been better? As hard as the question is to answer, join us as we take a statistical look at who has been more effective.

Zlatan has played just half an hour of more football than Aguero this season in the league, but has just 17 goals and 5 assists to his name. Aguero has scored 20 goals yet again this term, also picking 3 assists.

Though Aguero has a passing accuracy of 82%, 8% more than Zlatan, he has created just 31 chances, making 28 key passes. Zlatan has been far more productive, with 41 key passes and 46 chances created. Both players are excellent finishers and have a similar shot accuracy. While Zlatan has been on target with 55% of his attempts, Aguero has hit the target with 52% of his shots.

Sergio Aguero

Though Zlatan has scored 4 headed goals, compared to just 2 from Aguero’s head, the Argentine has been effective from set-pieces, scoring 6 goals from such situations, including 4 spot kicks. Ibra has scored just 3 goals from dead ball situations, with 2 of them from the spot.

For his age, Zlatan is a decent dribbler but is nowhere close to Aguero, who has a successful take-on rate of 63%. Zlatan has a success rate of 51.52%. However, the Swede is far more effective in the air, winning 51.52% of his aerial duels, compared to just a meagerly 18.92% from Aguero.

The Manchester City man has suffered 13 fouls more than Zlatan, winning 49.44% of his total duels. Zlatan has attracted a foul just 20 times this season, winning just 39.69% of his total duels.

It was a joy to watch the duo banging goals all across the country, and irrespective of what the two clubs are planning to do with these beasts, we suggest that they should keep hold of these two goalscoring machines.
