Manchester United certainly look to have problems everywhere. So if I have to pick their best starting eleven past this January transfer window, they need to certainly make some signings. Moyes is also tight lipped on Wilfred Zaha whose life off the pitch has created a much flutter than his game on the pitch.

 Moyes has said  Zaha’s muted start to life at the club is all part of a perhaps bigger learning curve. Quoted by ESPN, Moyes said:

“Wilf has not appeared. We have not felt we have had the opportunity. I want Wilf to get used to what happens here. The competition is hard. It is just impossible to get all these players a game at the one time. You can only ever play 11.  It is important he gets to see the level of the training here, the level of the players and the quality they have got. He is getting better which we are pleased about.”

In the heart of the defence both Rio Ferdinand and Nemnaja Vidic are past their sell by date and look fatigued as matches wither on. Patrice Evra looks like a burden but they do have Alex Buttner as a cover. The Red Devils might be tempted to pay over the hill for Moyes’ former team’s left back Leighton Baines from Everton. Johnny Evans along with Chris Smalling look too immature to lead the line at the back. So they need Ezequiel Garay who has been linked with the club. Rafael will be back after his long injury layoff and would help the cause.

 In Midfield Moyes needs to sort what formation is he going to play. From what I’ve followed him over the years it would be better if United play the diamond in midfield with Carrick as the base to control the tempo of the game. On the wings they do have options in Nani, Valencia and Ashley Young. At the left side Kagawa has to play in order to have the impact he had at Dortmund. Julain Draxler, the 20 year old from Schalke is the right man for United with his passing prowess and his willingness to attack more in the final third which helps Rooney to play up front with Van Persie rather than dropping deep and play as the link man. I don’t include Fellaini, for I feel the less said about him, the better.

All that done United’s boss David Moyes needs to first figure out which formation is he going to play on as the season prolongs. I feel the diamond will work best given the full backs they have who can add to the numbers up front.

We can all talk about numerous philosophies, chalk innumerable formations but at the ne d of the day it’s the manager who decides what’s best for the team. While it hasn’t been Unitedesque like at the start of the season, things ought to change at the Theatre of Dreams.
