Manchester United vs Manchester City report: Man City match report

Manchester City took a giant step towards retaining the Premier League title by beating local rivals Manchester United 2-0 away at Old Trafford.

Second half goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane was enough to hand Pep Guardiola’s men another win in their quest for an unprecedented domestic treble, and of course, the league title.

The game began with United showing some sort of response after their no-show at Goodison Park. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were disciplined off the ball and created one or two chances on the break.

However, the best chance of the first-half was fabricated by the away side, when Raheem Sterling went on a mazy dribble inside the United half and had a clear sight of goal. The Englishman then couldn’t get much power into his shot to beat David de Gea.

The United keeper was beaten nine minutes into the second half though. Bernardo Silva picked up possession at the edge of the box, easily cut inside on his left foot and placed his shot at near post to give his team the lead.

City doubled their lead 12 minutes later after Fred gave the ball away in the midfield to allow the away side to counter. Sterling found Sane at the edge of the box with space. The latter then got his shot away, which was straight at de Gea, but the Spaniard made a meal of it and allowed it to go in.

Throughout the course of this game, United had one clear chance, which was when they were only a goal down. But Jesse Lingard missed from three yards out with an open goal in front of him to reflect the worse phase of the club.

City won’t complain though as they go a point clear of second-placed Liverpool now, with only three games each to play. It is clear that the noisy neighbours of Manchester United are hands-on favourites to retain the title on the 12th of May.
